An area rug does a lot more than cover up stains and provide cushion. Give your bedroom the depth and dimension a plain carpet or tile floor lacks. Just make sure it covers all the area around the bed.
And keep it simple. There’s no need for deep shag or funky fabrics; comfort is the key here. Avoid bold, bright colors; stick with subtle patterns and soft, simple shades that both hide stains and provide cushion for bare feet.
