Google Wants to Help You Out This Mother’s Day

Google has your Mother’s Day gift needs partially covered this year.

The search engine maintains a robust photo-sharing platform called Google Photos. That engineering team today set its users up with an automated tool that will produce a short, thoughtful photo slideshow of Mom.

If you want to experiment with it and tweak your own custom video (you’ve got a little less than a week until Mother’s Day actually arrives), then go to photos.google.com/mothersday and follow the instructions that appear on screen. You’ll only need to identify the mother you wish to honor, as well as any children she has. Google’s software takes it from there to select and arrange the photos, then adds music to them. You can see an example of the finished product above.

It goes without saying that this should not be the only thing you do to honor your mother or spouse for Mother’s Day. Sure, the video makes a great complement to any existing effort to let her know she is remembered, but it should by no means be the main event. Buy some flowers, send a card, or show up in person first; let the photo slideshow be an addition to whatever you’re already doing for her instead of everything you’re doing for her. And if you need some last-minute gift-giving help, we’ve got you covered.
