Though SUV sales continue to skyrocket thanks to cheap fuel prices, there’s another segment that is emerging quietly out of the shadow: luxury vehicles. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which opens to the public on Jan. 16, the red carpet was rolled out for the plethora of new luxury offerings intended to further whet the public’s appetite for upscale cars. From Volvo and Mercedes to Hyundai and Lincoln, more luxury products in both the light truck segment as well as refreshers and redesigns in the car segment will serve to entice buyers for the year to come. It’s been a milestone year for the industry overall, which sold a record 17.39 million vehicles, according to WardsAuto. No surprise, really, when the U.S. is second only to China as the world’s biggest car market.
