Cut to Fit
The first step is to cut your box pieces. Make a 45° cut at the end of one strip, then measure 18 inches from the longest edge of the cut and make another 45° cut in the opposite direction. Do that again for the second 18-inch piece, and then again with the pair of foot-long pieces. Dry fit them to make sure they form a perfectly square box. Then measure and square cut the strips for the interior compartments, again accounting for the blade’s width. Then trim off three-eighths of an inch from the height of all the compartment pieces (this will accommodate inserting the steel plate on the bottom of the box).
