True to its moniker, New Balance does a great job balancing price, performance, style, and function with its newest running shoe, Cypher Run. High-performance sneakers keep edging past the $100 mark and beyond, so it’s nice to see a well-designed running shoe from an established, trusted brand coming in at $90.
The Cypher Run features a lightweight knit upper with a bootie construction — like slipping on socks — and features a rubberized ribbed overlay on the toe that not only looks cool but adds durability.
For comfort and support the shoe has molded EVA foam pods in the heel as well as foam midsoles. They also feature ripple design ground-contact foam outsoles to keep you from slipping when you’re cruising down the road. The shoe comes in six colorways, from straight black to bolder shades like burgundy, green, and grey. It’s also super light, especially for a mid-top, weighing in at only 7.4 ounces.
We gave these several (literal) workouts, wearing them for an exercise routine that includes jumping rope and jogging. They have a nice bit of spring, are breathable, give the foot a decent amount of support, and have good traction. For those of you who aren’t really into sweating, but still dig the style, these shoes are super comfortable for all day, every day wear.
Another interesting aspect of the Cypher Run is the toggle lacing system. There’s no lace tying needed, making it very easy to pull on and off. For those have difficulty getting in and out of their sneakers, this may be a huge selling point. Or you could just be a little lazy, like us. [$90, newbalance.com]
