The North Face Futurelight Footwear
Extra breathable but totally waterproof, The North Face’s new footwear uses a bootie made out of its non-PFC electrospun Futurelight membrane. That gets laminated between a face fabric and a backer, both made from recycled materials. A stretchy membrane makes the booties less bulky and cumbersome than traditional waterproof footwear, and better fitting to boot. The North Face says they’re 66 percent lighter and 50 percent more breathable than comparable hiking shoes and boots. Choose the sneaker-like Activist FUTURELIGHT hiking shoe for all-day comfort on and off the mountain, and the boot for more support, carrying loads or big days trekking. [$135-$145; thenorthface.com]
