We recently named Strava one of the best apps to help amp up your cardio workouts. And for good reason: It’s basically a social media platform for fitness junkies, dubbed “social fitness” by Strava. Essentially, the free apps and website let you log in and compare performance and compete with other runners and riders around the world. So even if you don’t have a workout partner to motivate you in real life, you have a virtual network of thousands at your finger tips.
Up until now, you could sync your phone or GPS watch, like a Garmin Fenix 3, with the app. But yesterday, Strava announced their partntership with fitness tracking giant Fitbit—which is big news for those of us who not only like to exercise pretty competively, but also like to know how much we’re moving during the rest of the day and how well we’re sleeping at night. What it means: You can now seamlessly sync between Strava and Fitbit apps and trackers (like these three new tricked out fitness trackers from Fitbit).
“By integrating with Strava, users get the best of both worlds: powerful workout analysis, training tools and an amazing social experience with Strava; and all-day and night insights of their most important workout and health stats with Fitbit. With automatic syncing between both their Fitbit and Strava accounts, users get the most complete picture of their health and fitness, letting them concentrate on what’s important to them – their performance,” James Park, CEO and Co-Founder of Fitbit said in a release.
And since Fitbit users are on average 27 percent more active when they connect with even one friend, imagine the potential this new partnership brings to the table.
