Rebirth of an Icon: McLaren 570GT
The McLaren lineup is about to expand, with as many as 15 additions expected in half a dozen years, and the 570GT — an evolution of the just-released 570S — leads the charge. The 570GT carries the mantle of being more functional, day-to-day, than the 570S, offering a panoramic roof and a rear glass opening that opens to reveal a specially designed cargo area behind the rear seats. (Specially fitted luggage will be available, but McLaren didn’t go into specifics on pricing.) According to lead designer Robb Melville, the 570GT is just one interpretation of the Sports Series, which may include some surprises as the model lineup is fleshed out through 2022. Think of the 570GT as the McLaren you should take to the Hamptons for the weekend, with the same, refined 562-hp, turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 found in the 570S.
