In addition to the Maybach Pullman and the rugged G500 4×4-squared, Mercedes has unwrapped a ridiculously ferocious racing version of its new AMG GT sports car. Built to FIA specifications, the vehicle will compete in the 2015-2016 GT3 championships after its Geneva debut. Powered by a naturally aspirated AMG 6.3-litre V8, the non-turbocharged GT3 marks the end of a performance era for the brand, but also hints at what’s to come for a future street-legal supercar. With all the requisite swoops and vents and massive rear wing, the GT3 includes side pipes in front of the rear wheels. Virtually all the major components are made of carbon fiber, but it’s the striking vertical bar grille, reminiscent of the iconic gull-winged 300SL, that is most endearing.
