Polar has long been a leader in heart rate monitoring of serious athletes, and has recently turned out its Loop band. But its new A300 marries that activity tracker into an entry-level multi-sport watch so you can get all of your activity recorded on a single device. Polar simplified the device (and kept the price in check) by eliminating GPS and requiring athletes to use a chest strap for heart rate, but the unit does automatically detect when you nod off at night. We like that you can remove the unit from its wristband to recharge directly in a USB port — handy if you forget a charging cable.
