2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
The best place to give summer a proper send-off is arguably from the driver’s seat of the 460-horsepower 2019 Corvette Grand Sport, complete with its 6.2-liter V-8 and extra views of the sky whenever you want. The sports car took our recent long weekend getaway to the next level—fast. Slide down into the low bucket seat and you’ll want to put the top down, especially because it’s so foolproof. A button next to the steering wheel initiates the transformation into the showstopper convertible. In other words, no annoying stops where you’re trying to put it back on before the sky opens up and you get drenched. Its other interior tech features, like Apple CarPlay and 4G WiFi, come standard, and my passenger and I never had any issues connecting to either. Long miles were comfortable. Getting in and out of it, on the other hand, takes getting used to since it sits so low to the ground. And if you’re taking a long trip, there’s only room for a couple suitcases in the trunk. But that’s all you really need for a weekend. After a few days driving highways and back roads with sharp corners, we found it to be a fun and easy ride. Will strangers come up to you and ask to take a picture of it? Non-stop. This ride attracts attention. Halfway through our test drive, one man rolled down his window at a stoplight to say, “Beautiful!” and “What a car!” He finally asked its model year. “The future!” I said. Then the light turned green. — John Lonsdale, Deputy Editor
