Eddie Bauer Sorcerer
Best for Rugged Adventures
CTF3, the material Eddie Bauer used to craft the Sorcerer, is incredibly strong – 15 times stronger than steel, according to the company. All we know is that the tarp-like fabric endured extended abuse better than anything we’ve tested: Neither rain nor tight-slot canyon squeezes were an issue. The pack expands from 40 liters to 55 liters and, in either form, is comfortable and secure. Lots to love, but its best feature may be the removable back panel that can also serve as a sleeping pad or emergency splint. [$499; eddiebauer.com]
