People’s Choice
Looking for a way to draw people to its booth at NAHBS, Tallerico decided to build this steel penny farthing. The result speaks for itself as it took the People’s Choice Award back to Lodi, Calif. All welds were hand-laid by Jon Tallerico using pieces of scrap — including the two downtubes used to construct the bike’s fork legs. The 72-spoke, 50-inch front wheel was imported from the Netherlands and had to be constructed by hand. And here’s the best part: It’s for sale. All you need is a 34-inch inseam and enough cash to make them a reasonable offer. Antique farthings go for several thousand dollars on eBay; this one is rideable and comes with all the documentation (like drawings and original photos) to make it a future family heirloom.
