Badfish Re-Leash
SUP borrowed the leash concept — securing your board to your ankle with a length of urethane cord and Velcro — from surfing. While the method works on waves and flat water, it doesn’t translate to the river, where entanglement on rocks has lead to multiple drowning deaths. In response, Badfish, a standup paddleboard manufacturer based in Colorado, created Re-Leash, featuring a patent-pending quick-release system that attaches to your PFD, not your ankle, via a carabiner. While Re-Leash was originally conceived for use on the river, it’s proven to be the safest option for all styles of SUP. Bonus: The coiled Re-Leash is low-drag. [$63; badfishsup.com]
