Bell Helmets Pro Star
Bell’s top-of-the-line Pro Star borrows safety tech from its off-road counterpart, the Moto-9 Flex, and puts it to use in a slick new road-racing helmet. The Flex Impact Liner has a progressive layering feature (three different protective-foam materials) to deal with high-, medium-, and low-speed impacts, plus defending against sudden rotational torque on your head. Outside, there’s a carbon shell reinforced by TeXtreme, an ultrathin carbon-fiber weave that’s 20 percent lighter than normal. This makes for one of Bell’s lightest and strongest helmets. And, after a fall, when first-responders arrive, they can quickly remove the Pro Star’s magnetic cheek pads, allowing them to more easily remove the helmet and reduce the chance of neck injury. The Pro Star comes at a premium price, starting at $1,199.95, but offers a higher level of safety.
