Samsung’s highly anticipated new smartphone, the Galaxy S9, is definitely a pretty piece of technology—and one that might feel familiar to people who’ve used the South Korean brand’s phones in the past. While it looks great, the new phone doesn’t boast too many visual differences from its predecessor, the Galaxy S8. The phones have the same display size, battery, and amount of RAM (4 or 64 GB).
You’ll find the biggest differences in an updated camera that brings with it a number of new functionalities. Samsung has outfitted the S9 and S9+ with the tagline ‘The camera. Reimagined,’ and they mean it: both phones are equipped with something called Dual Aperture mode, which allows them to switch between f1.5 or f2.4, making it easier to shoot in light or dark conditions. It also has a fun answer to Apple’s Animoji functionality: AR Emoji, which enables you to customize a digital version of yourself with everything from glasses and clothing to different facial expressions that match your own.
The $719.99 S9 will be available March 16; pre-orders start on March 2. Take a closer look at the phone’s coolest features below.
