In the 1930s, designer William Hawley Bowlus, who built the Spirit of St. Louis, created an aluminum-shelled, bullet-shaped trailer he hoped would be the ultimate travel machine. But the Great Depression sidelined his dream, and only 80 shining examples were ever produced. They maintained cult status, however, and a company has finally resuscitated the Bowlus Road Chief. The trailer has the original’s distinct styling but is updated with such modern conveniences as solar panels, plush armchairs, WiFi, and hardwood flooring. Airstream who?
