Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid and Cayenne S E-Hybrid
It’s still a Porsche, even when it’s silent.
It might surprise you that this German brand offers three plug-in cars — more than any other manufacturer (for the record, Porsche built the first battery-and-combustion-powered hybrid in 1899). The current fleet is led by the 918 Spyder, an $848,000 hypercar that’s arguably the most sophisticated production model ever created. But Porsche also offers a couple of plug-ins you might consider, even if you’re not a sheikh or Seinfeld: a variant of its four-door sedan, called the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Both the Panamera and the Cayenne plug-ins weave a 95-horsepower electric motor into their gas-powered drivetrains, with two benefits: You can travel up to 15 miles emission-free in near silence, or put that battery boost toward something a bit more Porsche-like — gutsier acceleration. [Panamera, 50 MPGe; 540 miles on one tank; from $97,195. Cayenne, 47 MPGe; 480 miles on one tank; from $77,395]
