2008: Nike Air Zoom Hayward 3+
Runner: Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot
About the Shoe: The Hayward was a short-lived performance trainer styled after the shoes worn by the legendary Steve Prefontaine. It was a heavier, softer shoe than most racing flats, but was still light and flexible enough to be worn for racing. Obviously, it didn’t slow down Cheruiyot. Similarly, the brand new Lunar Tempo is a shoe that’s best suited for long, fast training runs, but which is being worn by a lot of runners in long races.
