In an era when checking baggage can cost you extra dough (not to mention significantly lengthen the travel time of a short trip), a carry-on roller bag has become the most essential piece of luggage for the modern traveler. Enter Incase’s five-piece EO Travel Collection, which includes a backpack, duffel, and three variations on the wheeled carry-on. Best known as a maker of iPhone and laptop cases, the San Francisco company is moving into “bags on wheels” with this collection, and it sports clean lines and sophisticated material choices for which Incase is known.
Hardshell and standard rollers sit at the center of the the EO bags, both of which make space for your various gadgets via removable protective pockets for your 17-inch laptop and iPad, respectively. (While we wouldn’t recommend throwing these pockets around with your laptop inside, they do make for particularly easy access at airport security.) The heathered, almost woolen gunmetal fabric is strictly first class, with some neon green accents that help these bags stand out in an overhead compartment stuffed with otherwise staid-looking bags. The cloth handle and sturdy, smooth wheels on both versions make them easy to haul around. Despite all the pockets and built-in protection (particularly on the hardshell) on these bags, they’re surprisingly light at just a touch over eight pounds.
Thanks to some clever interior design touches, the main compartments expand by 35 percent when open, providing plenty of space for a weekend trip’s worth of clothing. The shorter, slightly lighter rolling brief is better suited to day trips and overnights, but we’d opt for the full-size rollers – a little extra space never hurts. [$149-$299; goincase.com]
