Want to Upgrade Your IPhone Early?

Apple store trading rotator

As first reported on by 9to5mac.com, Apple Stores may soon be accepting old iPhones as trade fodder for newer models. According to the website, 80% of iPhones sold are not being purchased in Apple Stores; instead they’re being purchased via carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

In addition to upping the number of iPhones sold in Apple Stores, Apple hopes its decision to accept trade-ins will increase consumers’ exposure to the Apple eco-system (tablets, laptops, etc.), which will hopefully drive up Apple’s overall sales.

This news comes in the wake of rumors that Apple will be rolling out a cheaper version of the iPhone, dubbed by some as the iPhone 5C. While Apple has lost market share to Android, the company still maintains the vast majority of the industry’s profits. The iPhone 5C could be a move to both bolster sales and increase Apple’s market share.

So, what does this all mean for you? Instead of waiting for an upgrade opportunity through your carrier, you might be able to bring your archaic iPhone 4S to an Apple Store and skip the wait.
