The days are getting longer and the stoke is getting bigger as spring rolls in. Although, while temperatures rise, fair weather is certainly not guaranteed. Being prepared for those infamous spring showers, finicky winds and other inclement weather occurrences will keep your fun factors high. Here are some of our favorite lightweight windbreakers and waterproof jackets that will let you keep playing comfortably this spring.

The Minimalist – Arc’teryx Squamish Hoody
Arc-teryx’s Squamish Hoody is ultra lightweight, minimal and tough. Weighing only 140 grams, you will often forget it is in your pack, but will be grateful you have it stowed away when the wind starts to blow. The Squamish Hoody is not only handy for warm weather activities, but it is a favorite amongst ski tourers who start cold to keep warm. We also are a huge fan of all the rad colors the Squamish comes in.

The Natural – Icebreaker’s Coriolis
Icebreaker’s Coriolis is nice option for those who like the merino touch. Using Pertex® Quantum Air nylon fabric for the outside fabric and merino mesh lining for ventilation on the inside, the Coriolis offers the best of both worlds, natural and synthetic. This jacket is both soft and windproof.

The Fleece – Patagonia’s R1 Tech Face Hoody
You may be unwilling to take off Patagonia’s R1 Tech Face Hoody due to its comfortable and lightweight feel. Using their new “Tech Face” fabric, this R1 hoody is made from 69% recycled material and features all the benefits of their older Regulator styles, but with an added weather protection and DWR finish. This is the perfect fleece for various conditions this spring.

The Hard Shell – Rab Firewall Jacket
The old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers”, but we all know those showers come anytime they want during the spring. Rab’s Firewall Jacket will keep you dry during those spur-of-the-moment showers. Using Pertex Shield® + 3-layer fabric, the Firewall is properly named since no wetness will get in. It’s a safe bet for those super-wet spring days, especially at high altitudes. We also think the three pocket placement is superb.

The Classic – adidas Outdoor Agravic Alpha Shield Hoodie
adidas Outdoor’s Agravic Alpha Shield hoodie is exactly what you think of when you think “windbreaker”: With a super soft Polartec® Alpha front fabric, the chest area stays warm, while the back is light and loose for sweating and breathability. The front zip pockets are functional and deep, while the cut of the jacket is flattering and well thought-out. We love best of all the hood and neck area, which is slightly oversized for helmets and comfort.

The Safety – Outdoor Research’s Helium II
Quick weather changes are not going to stop Outdoor Research’s Helium II jacket from keeping you dry in an emergency situation. This lightweight, waterproof jacket packs down and is a great piece to have in your kit. Whether it is a sudden downpour, or huge gusts of wind, the simple yet durable Helium is ready for it all.
