Why it works: Spend an hour or more pulling stubborn deep-rooted weeds and you’ll experience soreness unlike anything from the gym. The pulling, rotational, and twisting movements will challenge your upper body.
Keys to success: Protect your hands with quality gloves. You’ll get a better grip and avoid blisters and poison ivy. (Long-sleeve shirts also are advisable.) Keep pruning shears and a bottle of herbicide handy for those weeds that won’t come up. Place a pad under your knees to maximize comfort, too.
