7. Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Best of the A-List: Yonder Mountain String Band; Keller Williams; The Lone Bellow
Ins and Outs: Decisions, decisions, decisions. If you’re paying attention to the dates of these festivals, you’ll notice that this one lies on pretty much the same weekend as the Firefly Music Festival. We’ve made our case for Firefly; now hear what you’d potentially be missing out here. Telluride, Colorado, might be best known for its ski resort and winter-month activities; but the 41-year-old, annual Bluegrass festival that takes over the town in June, doesn’t play second fiddle in the least. With the recent resurgence in all things acoustic, the Telluride Festival is a must-see for the hollow-bodied acolyte. And 2014 is no exception, given that Grammy-winning bluegrass trio Nickel Creek, on hiatus since 2007, is probably playing their biggest show at this year’s event.
Insider Information: For those that enjoy the open air, a crackling fire, and the tented domicile, Telluride and nearby Ouray have great camping options. Note that there are six campsite options for festivalgoers (some of which have already sold out). Needless to say, it’s a much cheaper option than trying to find space in the nearby off-season resort town.
