Current Treatments: Pain Relief
Migraine treatments are usually put in two categories: There are preventative treatments, which are used to reduce the number of migraines people have, and there are pain relievers, taken to address migraines that are already underway. Some people can use ibuprofen and acetaminophen for mild migraines. Another common type of pain reliever used to address migraines are triptans, which work by constricting blood vessels and blocking pain in the brain. Ergots, anti-nausea meds, opiods, and glucocorticoids are also used to treat migraines but many of these have (sometimes severe) side effects.
