Whipping your torso up off the floor forces muscles in your hips to fire instead to give you momentum instead of the rectus abdominis, or six-pack muscles. Which means doing 50 sit-ups in 50 seconds does not make your abs stronger — it just fatigues your hip flexors (which are likely already tight from a lot of sitting). Still hooked on sit-ups? Try doing them heartbreakingly slow, focusing on engaging the abs the entire time.
