Bike: Don’t Rush into a Tri-Bike
“I think when people are starting off, there are disadvantages on a tri-bike,” says Scott. “If you’re getting a tri-bike with aero bars, it has a more forward seat angle, so when you sit on the seat and you look at the down tube, that angle is typically 75, 76, 78 degrees. On a road bike it’s around 73 and while that doesn’t seem like a lot, for every degree it pushes you a half inch further forward.” So while you’re a little more aerodynamic on a tri-bike, a road bike will help keep hips back, which will in turn help to activate glutes — and find power outside of your legs so as to not burn you out for the run.
