Run: Change Your Running Form
While for running-only races, the form that is most comfortable is usually the most efficient, in a triathlon there are other factors at play. “The tendency off the bike is to bend over like a banana,” says Scott, “with your fists clenched and your pecks tight.” This is because you’re drawn in when on the bike, and running requires the reverse of the position — for you to stand up tall and stretch. “You want to try to stand up really tall, draw that belly in, and keep your eyes looking forward,” says Scott — don’t look down at the ground. Try to relax your arms, squeeze your shoulder blades back, and take a shorter stride to begin with to let your hip flexors stretch at the outset.
