Nearly Three Quarters of America Experiencing Widespread Flu Activity

The East Coast is getting hammered with blizzard-like conditions from an aptly named “bomb cyclone,” but states all across the country are suffering from the flu, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveillance report.

During the week ending December 23, 36 states (72% of the country) reported widespread flu activity. So far this flu season, 12 children have died from the flu, and the proportion of Americans seeing their healthcare provider for flu-like illness is 5%—up from the national baseline of 2.2%.
