It seems that most people have an adventure on their bucket list, whether that’s climbing a mountain, skiing a double black diamond, or spending a week backpacking. Whatever the goal, you need to build a base level of conditioning before you head into the wilderness. Connie Sciolino is the founder of The Alpine Training Center in Boulder, Colorado, and spends her days ensuring adventurers are prepared before they head out. “A good foundation will not only help you achieve your goal, but allow you to actually enjoy it, too,” Sciolino says.
This six-week program is basically the adventurer’s guide to keeping you strong and injury-free. To stave off boredom, and to make sure you’re hitting all the muscle groups, you can choose from a set of different workout blocks each day. So, every workout will combine one warm-up, one leg workout, one core workout, and one finisher. The following day, you’ll choose all different movements, and continue like that for six weeks. Consider this your mix-and-match alpine training plan.
