Myth: Exercise is always the best way to de-stress.
First of all, this should be obvious: Exercise reduces stress. A recent study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise even found that 30 minutes of moderate exercise provides complete protection from stress (whereas rest reduced stress but didn’t protect against it). However, if someone reacts to stress with anger, they might want to choose their exercises carefully. During intense exercise, our heart races, muscles tense, and adrenaline is released into the bloodstream. This can actually make some people feel more stressed. People who notice exercise ramps them up in a negative way, might want to consider less arousing physical activities, such as yoga or walking.Back to top
