Diamondback Overdrive Comp
If you’re looking for an affordable mountain bike, Diamondback is always a great name to check out. The Overdrive Comp ($1,000 at Backcountry or direct from Diamondback) is an aluminum hardtail with a trail-ready build. The frame includes short chainstays, which aim to provide nimble handling, while a steep seat angle positions the rider over the pedals for maximum power. The Overdrive rolls on 29-inch wheels designed to hold momentum over trail obstacles. Rockshox Recon Silver provides 100mm of travel, while Shimano’s reliable Deore takes care of shifting. The 2×10 drivetrain provides a wide range of gears to get you up and down just about any hill you encounter. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power.
It should be noted that the Diamondback’s Blanchard 29 wheels are tubeless-ready, which gives you the option to upgrade. Tubeless systems can be ridden at lower tire pressures than traditional tubed tires, and offer improved traction and fewer flats to fix trailside.
