What do you, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Channing Tatum have in common?
If you said killer smiles and thousands of adoring female fans, we can’t guarantee that’s totally true. But if you guessed CrossFit? Ding , ding, ding. Go ahead and pat yourself on your (probably pretty well-chiseled) back.
Yes, while CrossFit has only been around since 2000, it has certainly swept the nation—celebs included. And it’s no wonder: It’s fast. It’s competitive. It keeps things fresh. And most importantly, it gets results. Big-time.
But what do these hard-bodied stars love about it the most? Click through to find out—and let their sculpted physiques inspire a trip to your local CrossFit gym.
New Girl actor Max Greenfield says CrossFit comes naturally to him, and luckily this funnyman—whose job requires him to be shirtless much of time—enjoys it. How much? He told ESPN he’s been a devotee of the exercise regime for roughly two years now, and usually he hits his CrossFit gym four to five times a week. Respect.
Secret’s out—Brad Pitt wasn’t born with the perfect bod we all know. In fact, he works hard for his chiseled physique, and doing CrossFit helps him achieve it, according to WetPaint.com. What can the workout do for you? The fast-paced repetitions and constant movement put your body into extreme workout mode, so you see results quickly.
Donovan, who stars on the CW’s 90210, attributes his washboard abs to a healthy diet of white meat and fish, and, oh yeah—lots of CrossFit. In fact, it’s a family affair —the actor works out with his brother, who owns a certified CrossFit gym in Los Angeles.
This is the guy everyone loves to hate—not only was he recently named PEOPLE magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, but he also makes being fit look so easy. Even a guy like Tatum can get a little round around the edges though. "I like to be lean,” he tells PEOPLE. “And when I'm not training, I get really round and soft." So how does he avoid the flab? He does CrossFit, of course—and loves the constantly changing routines because they help him beat workout boredom.
This young actor, who stars on ABC’s Suburgatory, has only praise for his favorite workout. “You show up, there’s a workout on the board, the clock starts—I love that you’re always competing,” Parker tells MF. “Plus you start to develop a friendship with the people you see there all week, which in L.A., can be hard to come by.” There you have it. For him, CrossFit isn’t just a workout—it’s a lifestyle. Do you agree?
In his MF cover story, The Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper told us he fell in love with CrossFit because of its straight-up efficiency. “Jumping into CrossFit was like jumping into the deep end of a pool. These workouts are so compact. I used to do long sessions all the time, and my body started to get beat up. But with CrossFit, it's almost like my body is finally getting a chance to rest while, at the same time, I'm pushing it harder than I've ever pushed it."
Lost star Josh Holloway has been an athlete since birth, and that’s why he loves CrossFit—plus it doesn’t hurt that it helps to keep his core strong. “I always played basketball because I loved it. And now it goes perfectly with all the training I do. CrossFit and cross training, all for joint stabilization, core—all that make you a better athlete,” he explains.
After being cast in the 2011 hit The Immortals, actor Kellan Lutz had only a month to get the body of god, so he turned to three-a-days of functional training that included CrossFit workouts. (According to his trainer, Rich McDonald: “[Lutz] told me, ‘Never the same thing twice!’…Shock me every single time.”) The result? The Twilight actor ended up in the best shape of his life…not surprisingly.
