According to ACE’s study, participants burned almost 500 calories in a 40-minute game, and they spent a fair amount of time with their heart rates extremely elevated. Even better, participants didn’t have any idea that they’d burned near that many calories — the game was so fun they hadn’t noticed all the work. While that’s great for the overall enjoyment factor, it seemed to actually have physical benefits too. Participants had lower blood pressure after they played than before the match.
