1. ‘The Rock’ keeps it real—again
For a show that relishes in the glitz, flash, and glamour of fast cars, big boats, expensive clothes, big investments, and attention that comes with being involved in professional sports—the show is called Ballers, after all—it may come as a surprise that some of the storylines take on serious subjects.
Over the first two seasons, the show explored Strasmore’s pain pill addiction, the physical toll that an athletic career can take on the head and body, the depression that comes from dealing with a serious injury, and how athletes can go broke soon after they finish their playing days. Strasmore is usually in the middle of these storylines, and it gives Johnson the chance to flash some more of his dramatic side than is normally called for in popcorn flicks like Baywatch and Fate of the Furious.
