As much as fans know Marc Anthony for his work—he has sold more than 12 million records worldwide—the artist is at least equally famous for his conquests away from the microphone, specifically his 2004 marriage to Jennifer Lopez (which still has some guys jealous). He also has twin boys with former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, and recently dated Topshop heiress Chloe Green.
But Anthony has also acknowledged that he’s always been a skinny guy. Not exactly what most consider a magnet for the world’s hottest women. But the proof is there. Dude has game. And if you take it from him, it’s all about presentation. Confidence is just as attractive as a tailored suit covering a beach-ready six-pack.
“My dad would tell me, ‘Son, I’m ugly and you’re ugly—work on your personality’,” Anthony tells Men’s Fitness in his June cover story. “I swear to God. I told him a couple of months ago, I said, ‘Dad, you remember telling me that when I was little?’ He’s like, ‘I’ll tell you that shit today, too!’ I think it served me well. I think confidence is a powerful thing.”
The two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter says he never lacked confidence and that started with this father, an amateur bodybuilder who competed in the 105-pound bantamweight division.
Looks like there are two lessons here: Confidence is the ultimate equalizer. And listen to your dad. Even if he says you’re ugly. You could end up with a J-Lo type one day.
