The Violet Hour – Chicago, IL
Chicago takes their food and drinks seriously, so don’t be surprised to find complexly crafted cocktails at The Violet Hour, a Prohibition era-inspired lair (i.e. there’s no signage out front), that makes all of their drink from scratch using exclusively fresh ingredients, housemade simple syrups, bitters, and twice-filtered ice cubes. The fairly extensive menu is divided by spirit and includes a number of oddball notables – Coffee & Cigarettes made with Sailor Jerry, lime, Fernet Branca, brown sugar coffee syrup, and tobacco bitters — alongside classics like a gimlet.
