Clif Bar's holiday flavors hit shelves this week with the Pecan Pie, Iced Gingerbread, and Spiced Pumpkin Pie bars. This is Clif's 12th edition of the limited-release flavors and the company says it created the bars to bring athletes the warm, fresh-baked tastes of the holidays and celebrate winter. Supplies are expected to last through December.
Clif designed the seasonal energy bars to match its year-round offerings, which are ideal for fueling long workouts and adventures. The bars have roughly (slight variations by flavor) 250 calories, 43 grams of carbohydrate, and nine grams of protein, along with 23 vitamins and minerals. Seventy percent of the bars' ingredients are organic and Clif doesn't use high-fructose corn syrup or ingredients with trans fats.
One percent of sales from the three flavors will go to Protect Our Winters (POW), a snow-sports advocacy group fighting climate change.
“Clif is a natural fit to partner with us since they’ve been working to fight climate change for years,” says Chris Steinkamp, POW’s executive director. “This gives people a simple but meaningful way to raise money for Protect Our Winters.”
Last year’s seasonal bars raised about $20,000 and went to POW’s Hot Planet, Cool Athletes program. The outreach initiative sends professional athletes like snowboarder Jeremy Jones and big mountain skier Caroline Gleich to schools to educate kids about climate change and inspire them to take action.
