Hedge fund guys do CrossFit. So do cops. And construction workers, engineers, and professors. (Even rock stars, too!) Here are their stories.
Dale Durant, 20, is a Munnsville, N.Y.-based student.
In high school I thought, “As long as I’m skinny, I’m healthy.” That idea was shot down pretty quickly once I started CrossFit. I was too skinny. My legs were the only part of my body that had any strength.
My first semester of college I started CrossFit, and I went from weighing about 140 pounds to 175. It was incredible. By January I’d probably put on 20 pounds of muscle. I did strict Paleo for a couple of months, which was great. I’ve cut out so much bad stuff from my diet.
A lot of my friends aren’t fitness oriented. It’s weird to see how they look after a year of college. Everyone talks about gaining the “freshman 15” when they go away to college. I see it with my friends. But I gained the freshman 35, and my 35 looks a lot different from their 15. I see these people coming back home and they don’t look healthy at all. Now, thanks to CrossFit, I’m just so much more confident and prepared for whatever life throws at me. Girls are definitely more attracted to me. Also, I felt so much more confident in the interview for my summer job. I work as a park ranger—where I’m on bike patrol. –As told to David Wescott
