The Rebellion is ready for battle.

The final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story dropped on Thursday, revealing some major plot points and flashing some serious action surrounding protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).

Between flashes of X-Wing space battles, big explosions, and some Stormtrooper ass-kicking from a certain spiritual warrior (Donnie Yen) who is in touch with the Force, we learn that Jyn Erso’s father (Mads Mikkelsen) is essential to building the Death Star—and that the Empire will stop at nothing to leverage his weapon engineering prowess.

As such, the fledgling Rebellion has recruited Jyn Erso to help sabotage the planet-killing weapon. In a Usual Suspects-style riff on classic Star Wars themes—hear that classic leitmotif as our protagonist walks among a Tatooine-like desert?—Erso helps lead a ragtag group of soldiers to get it done, all while being chased by the main villain, Imperial weapons director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). Her “wild bunch” includes Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), a rebel intelligence officer; Bodhi Rook (The Night Of‘s Riz Ahmed), a former Imperial pilot turned against the Empire; the towering K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), a former Imperial enforcer droid; and Chirrut Îmwe (Yen), the quintessential warrior monk who doesn’t need to see Stormtroopers to whip their plasticine asses into the ground.

But for any Star Wars fan, the highlight of the clip is a single shot of one of the greatest film villains of all time: Darth Vader, looming large on screen as he does in the popular animation, (and in a new poster for the film):

Rogue One looks more like a war film rather than a usual science-fiction space adventure, and that’s by design—director Gareth Edwards (he previously directed the rebooted Godzilla starring Bryan Cranston) wanted a gritty and militaristic feel to this movie—and it works. The Rebels battle with the Empire on a lush, jungle-filled island that looks unlike anything ever seen before in a Star Wars movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Jones, Yen, Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker, hits theaters on December 16.
