If you play sports or work out after dark, you can still get a good night’s sleep, says a new poll in which 97% of respondents who did vigorous nighttime activity reported they slept just fine afterward. “Individuals who exercise within hours of bed are not more likely to report poor sleep than those who don’t,” says Matthew Buman, Ph.D., author of the report in Sleep Medicine. However, a.m. workouts led to the most favorable sleep, the survey also found, so that’s still the gold standard, sackwise. But if late hours better suit your schedule, go for it, Buman says. “Exercise is good for sleep, so try to fit it into your day wherever possible.”
