Working with the legendary director-producer team of James Ivory and Ismail Merchant, Day-Lewis played a pretentious man named Cecil Vyse in the adaptation E. M. Forster’s 1908 novel, which earned widespread critical acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, and a win for Best Adapted Screenplay.
