6. ‘My Left Foot’ – 1989
Day-Lewis earned his first Academy Award win for Best Actor for his portrayal of Irish writer and painter Christy Brown, who suffered from cerebral palsy and could only use his left foot to draw, type, and write. Day-Lewis got a lot of attention for his “method” acting during the production of the film—never breaking character while mimicking the physical limitations Brown had during his life.
