6. The ‘Basic Blast’ upper-body workout
“My favorite go-to workout in preparation for ‘The Beast’ is something I like to call the ‘Basic Blast,’” says contestant Kraig Shorter (not pictured). “This workout helped me with control of my body, and helped me move better in any way that I needed. That flexibility is imperative for your body with this competition.”
‘Basic Blast’ Workout:
Supersets weighted pullups with weighted dips.
Uses a 45-lb weighted vest and does a max set of pullups, and then heads over to the parallel bars and does a max set of dips—all with the 45-lb vest on.
Rests for 30 seconds. Then repeats 2 more times.
After completion, he takes off the vest and repeats the same workout.
