Make a list, and shop for just those items
“Remember this: everything that goes in your cart will go in your mouth,” says Hartwig. “Shopping without a plan (and while hungry, anxious, rushed, or frustrated) can lead to all kinds of not-worth-it foods going in your cart “just in case…” and once the brain senses reward on the horizon, it’s all but guaranteed you’ll be hoovering it once you get home, whether you really want it or not,” she explains. Making a grocery list is not that hard. “Feel free to include the treats you know are worth it in your food freedom, but once you get to the store, stick to your list and resist the urge to impulse-buy random junk foods,” Hartwig adds.
