Quitting Meat Cold Turkey
Lots of new vegetarians go all in right away. That works fine for some people, says Smithson, but for many others, quitting meat cold turkey is too much change, too fast, and they wind up unhappy with their new diet. It’s not that they’re caving to meat cravings necessarily; rather, they realize they dove into something they weren’t prepared for. Smithson suggests taking time to try out a few vegetarian recipes, learn where you can buy healthy vegetarian lunches near your office, and figure out which meatless proteins you like and you don’t. “Follow the Meatless Monday concept, and start by choosing one full day a week to eat vegetarian,” Smithson says. Then gradually work up to more and more meat-free days.
