Changes Throughout the Night
The sleep cycle repeats itself several times in a night, approximately every 90 to 110 minutes. While the order stays largely the same, the amount of time we spend in each stage changes. As the night goes on, stage 3 shortens and REM lengthens. People often awake from dreaming in the morning because there is a greater chance of being in REM the longer you sleep.
