The size of your home or apartment may not matter too much when choosing a dog, but your lifestyle does. An active person living an active lifestyle is going to need a dog that reflects that energy. Which is why if you love to run, bike, hike, or do anything active it’s probably not the best idea to adopt a bulldog. The bulldog does not do well in extreme climates and exercise has to be limited because of genetic breathing problems.
Age is not an indicator of how active a dog will be – there are plenty of older dogs (8 and up) that love running. Some active breeds include Labs, Border Collies, Pit-bulls, Boston Terriers, and Australian Cattle dogs. These types of dogs have a ton of energy and thrive on exercise regimens. Typically, dogs should be walked at least 1 1/2 hrs per day (1 walk in the morning, midday, and evening). If your schedule affords you more walking time it will only benefit your dog, as a tired dog is a well-behaved dog.Back to top
