Check Your Diet
You will not be able to eat your way out of baldness, sorry. But there is legitimate research that shows certain foods are crucial for maintaining healthy hair, and thereby slowing the rate at which you lose it. Protein tops the list since hair is, essentially, a long strand of protein. Daily servings of Greek yogurt, lean chicken and fish, nuts, or low-fat cheese can help ensure that you are consuming enough protein for healthy hair. Another dietary essential: Iron, which improves oxygen transportation through your blood to all areas of your body, including your scalp, where it is used to support hair growth. Red meat, dark greens, and oysters are all good sources. Finally, beef up your magnesium intake. Two thirds of adults in the U.S. don’t eat enough of this mineral, according to studies, and magnesium deficiencies have been linked to hair loss. Get your daily supply with a handful of almonds, a cup of spinach, and brown rice.
