The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), tells the riveting story of light heavyweight boxing champ Billy “The Great” Hope, played by Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal.
While Hope seemingly has it all, with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife, an adorable daughter, and a lavish lifestyle. But tragedy soon strikes, and his lifelong manager and friend leaves him behind.
Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis, a retired fighter and trainer of amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Hope enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption, looking to win back the trust of those he loves.
Gyllenhaal went through intensive training at Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s boxing center in Atlanta for the role of Hope. (And he got ripped!)
